The idea is developed by Hyundai and Grace Dent (British broadcaster and critic). It features a luxury cabin, a restaurant, a bar, and a movie theatre. The floor, walls, and ceiling of the hotel are covered by white-painted wood planks and there is also a rustic heater against one wall. During the stay, the guests can explore the 200 acres of nearby farmland, woods, and a brook.

The hotel is completely powered by the brand’s Ioniq 5 vehicles with the help of vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology. The V2L feature of the EV provides AC power (110 / 200 V) up to a maximum power consumption of 3.6 kW. An adapter available with the vehicle provides a socket by which standard domestic electronic devices can be plugged into.

This pop-up hotel will be open for 14 nights only, between Oct 19 to Nov 5, 2022. The bookings for this “world’s first car-powered hotel” are now underway.

"I hope this three-week pop-up hotel is just the start for this concept of a car plugging in and powering a luxury experience like this. I’m predicting that guests will be hoping that his amazing hotel and the full experience it offers might be here again in 2023," said Dent.

“Our award-winning IONIQ 5 can power Hotel Hyundai using its V2L feature, where an adapter from the car provides a socket which domestic appliances can be plugged into. The whole experience demonstrates the practicality of this pioneering technology, and we hope the concept inspires more people to go off-grid,” said Ashley Andrew, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor UK.
