Jeep Wrangler Magneto EV teased, debut soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Last month, Jeep announced the fully-electric version of its iconic off-road SUV, the Wrangler. And now, the American automaker teased two rendered images of its upcoming offering that are supposed to be the first official glimpse of the Wrangler EV. 

It is also known that Jeep's parent company ‘Stellantis’ registered a trademark for the name ‘Magneto’ one month ago, which has now appeared on the hood of the model being teased. Thus, the production-spec model of the electric Wrangler could have the Wrangler Magneto nomenclature. 

The automaker will unveil the Magneto concept during the 2021 Easter Jeep Safari, set to take place in Moab, Utah from March 27 to April 4. Jeep usually introduces new concept vehicles at the said event, but last year it got canceled due to the pandemic.

The teaser previews a big hood scoop that looks similar to the most powerful Wrangler yet, the V8-powered Rubicon 392. Behind the traditional seven-slot Jeep grille, there is an LED light bar that lines up nicely with the headlamps. 

The second teaser image shows off an orange model with a black grille, without any hood graphics, thus not showing any name. However, it has the word ‘Frank’ at the bottom, pointing out the name of the designer who drew the sketch.

Well, the details on the electric Jeep Wrangler continue to be scarce, it is known that it will retain the same body-on-frame SUV architecture driving all four wheels. The setup would have three battery packs to juice up the electric motor to help it offer a decent driving range. Talking about the charging solutions, Jeep is working hard on this with the installation of solar charging stations at several Jeep-centric locations around the country such as Moab in Utah and the Rubicon Trail in California, USA. 

After making its debut at the 2021 Easter Jeep Safari, the production-spec version of the Jeep Wrangler is expected to go on sale later this year.
