Mazda CX-30: Key features

Mazda CX-30: Key features

Mazda launched its new CX-30 in Malaysia earlier this month. Available in a total of 3 variants - 2.0G, 1.8D High, and 2.0G High - the Mazda CX-30 price starts at RM 143,059 for its base model. Out of the 3 trims, two of them run on petrol whereas one has been equipped with a diesel engine. Mazda CX-30 has been designed and priced such that it can sit right in between the smaller Mazda CX-3 and the bigger Mazda CX-5 that has a starting price of RM 130,000 and RM 137,000, respectively. So, what are the key features of the Mazda CX-30 that make it a balanced-buy? Let’s find out.

Mazda CX-30 exterior

Ageless design - Kodo: ‘Soul of Motion’

We always say that Mazda makes some of the most beautiful cars in the world. And that stays true for the new CX-30 as well. It continues to feature Mazda’s Kodo: ‘Soul of Motion’ design language which helps the car to really stand out of the crowd. At the front, the CX-30 shows off its sharp and sleek headlights and the unique signature sculpted grille with the triangular motif pattern. We like how Mazda has added the slim LED fog lights in the bumper. Thanks to the black body cladding all around, the CX-30 looks bolder and more rugged. Its side view is very sporty and the rear gets a set of familiar Mazda-type taillights. Then there are the dual exhausts peeking out from under the rear bumper.

Driver-centric cabin

The interior of the CX-30 is indeed sporty. The silver buttons on the 3-spoke steering wheel, silver lining on the dashboard, and the silver surround of the AC vents bring out a good contrast. In fact, the entire cabin has been designed keeping the driver in mind; it is a driver-centric cabin. Mazda likes to call this design philosophy as Jinba Ittai - horse and rider as one. Sitting in the driver’s seat, you will find all the controls well within your reach and everything makes driving the CX-30 a pleasure.

Stable ride quality

And it is not just CX-30’s cabin that makes driving it a pleasure, it is also the car’s stable ride quality. Mazda has implemented a host of its Skyactiv technologies which work in conjunction to give you the best driving experience as possible. We have Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture, Skyactiv-Body, and Skyactiv-Chassis that give the CX-30 a perfect balance between ride comfort, handling, and stability.

2020 Mazda CX-30 safety

High-level safety

Just like Mazda’s Skyactiv technologies keep the CX-30 stable, its i-Activsense safety package keeps the car safe. The CX-30 comes with various advanced safety features like-

  • High Beam Control
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Driver Attention Alert
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Mazda Radar Cruise Control
  • Adaptive Front-lighting System
  • Smart City Brake Support
  • Blind Spot Monitoring System

Apart from these, it also has ABS, EBD, DSC, Hill Launch Assist, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Electronic Parking Brake with an auto-hold feature, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and seven airbags - driver’s knee, side, curtain and front.

2020 Mazda CX-30 engine

Petrol and diesel engines

Talking about the Mazda CX-30 specs, there are two engine options available - 1.8-litre turbocharged diesel and 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol. The former produces 115 PS of max power at 4000 rpm and 270 Nm of peak torque at 1600-2700 rpm and comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the petrol engine has been tuned to churn out 165 PS of max power at 6000 revs and a peak torque of 213 Nm that kicks in at 4000 revs. It also gets the same 6-speed automatic transmission which Mazda likes to call ‘SkyActiv-Drive’.

Mazda CX-30 rear

If we talk about performance figures, the diesel variant can reach up to a top speed of 183 km/h whereas the petrol trims have a bit more juice as they max out at 196 km/h. Regarding fuel economy, Mazda claims that the diesel variant of the CX-3 consumes 4.9 litres of fuel per 100 km and the petrol variants 6.4 litres per 100 km.

So these were some of the key features of the latest Mazda CX-30. It is a good proposition which tries to provide the best of both worlds - CX-3 and CX-5. It is available in 8 colour options - Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver Metallic, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, Titanium Flash Mica, Jet Black Mica, and Polymetal Grey - and Mazda is also offering 5-year free maintenance and 5-year/100,000 km warranty.
