Mercedes-Benz GLE gets a new variant

KUALA LUMPUR: As of today, Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new variant that’s now part of the GLE family. Dubbed as the GLE 580 4Matic, the newest trim joins the existing troop consisting of the GLE 450 4Matic and the power-focused GLE 53 4Matic+. This new variant shares its powertrain specs with the larger GLS, the 580 4Matic to be specific.

Speaking of the engine specs, the GLE new trim is powered by a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 mill that churns out a maximum power of 483 hp along with a peak torque of 700 Nm. This mill sends power to all four wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The interesting thing is that though it is not an AMG model, the V8 mill makes power compared to the GLE 53s 3.0-litre turbo inline-six electric mill.

Taking about the electrified aspect of the car, we have the Mercedes EQ Boost 48-volt hybrid system that features an integrated starter generator. This generator helps in aspects such as EQ Boost whereby an extra 21 hp of power and 249 Nm of torque is produced. The 48-volt hybrid system also helps in other ancillary functions like air-conditioning compressor, and water pump.

The new GLE model also comes with an E-Active Body Control unit that single-handedly controls the damper rates and spring on each wheel. Thus, assuring better comfort and an amazing off-road experience.

The car will first go on sale in the US market, and it is priced at USD 76,800 (roughly RM 3,225,677). Part of its standard equipment list is leather upholstery, an Airmatic air suspension with adaptive damping, an AMG Line exterior package, a dual 12.3-inch display on the dashboard that’s linked to the Mercedes-Benz User Experience system.
