New Ford Everest variant coming to Malaysia, here’s what to expect

KUALA LUMPUR: Ford is geared up to bring something new to the Malaysian market. The company has just dropped a new teaser on its social media handles, with the caption “A new peak of luxury is coming.”

While the automaker remains tight-lipped about revealing the model’s identity, the dark silhouette image of the vehicle’s rear design strongly hints at the Ford Everest, suggesting that a new variant of the SUV is on the way to Malaysia.

Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), the sole distributor of Ford vehicles in Malaysia, currently offers the Everest in Sport, Trend, Titanium, and Wildtrak variants locally. The upcoming model could be the Ford Everest Platinum, which sits above the Wildtrak in the global lineup and aligns with the ‘new peak of luxury’ caption.

While official specifications are yet to drop, here’s what we can expect from the upcoming SUV -

Ford Everest Platinum: What to expect?

• The upcoming Everest will likely focus on delivering a more premium ownership experience to Malaysian buyers.
• It may come with cosmetic exterior upgrades like an exclusive front grille with silver accents, matrix headlamps, larger wheels, and Platinum-specific accents and badging.  

• Inside, we can expect a more luxurious cabin experience with quilted leather upholstery, softer dashboard and trims, 10-way powered front seats, heated/ventilated seats, ambient lighting, Bang & Olufsen speakers and other premium bits. 
• In terms of safety and driver-assistance, the new Everest version will most likely get a comprehensive ADAS pack, including advanced features like autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian protection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centring assist, lane change warning, blind spot detection, evasive steer assist, trailer assist/sway assist, and more. 
• Under the hood, it is expected to retain the same 2.0-litre bi-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, which kicks out a maximum power of 210 hp and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox and a part-time four-wheel drive system.
