New XPENG X9 launched in Malaysia - price and specs: three variants, RM279,888 to RM333,888

KUALA LUMPUR: Bermaz Xpeng has officially launched the updated XPENG X9 in Malaysia, rolling out a revised (facelift) seven-seater electric MPV that carries a handful of meaningful upgrades over the model it launched just over a year ago.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the price of the XPENG New X9 in Malaysia?

The XPENG New X9 is priced from RM279,888 for the FWD Standard Range. The FWD Long Range is RM297,888 and the AWD Performance is RM333,888. These are selling prices before registration and insurance. On-the-road prices without insurance start from RM281,073 for private buyers.
  • What's new in the XPENG New X9 compared to the 2025 model?

The key updates include a new Turing AI ADAS chipset (750 TOPS, up from Nvidia Orin-X at 254 TOPS), nine airbags instead of six, a 27-speaker audio system up from 23, larger battery capacities, power soft-close front doors, third-row seat heating, a 40/60 split-fold second row, a rear refrigerator with child lock, and an expanded five-colour exterior palette. The AWD Performance variant is also new to Malaysia.
  • Bookings are now open nationwide, with prices starting at RM279,888 for the base variant.

    Three variants are on offer:

    • XPENG X9 FWD Standard Range – RM279,888
    • XPENG X9 FWD Long Range – RM297,888
    • XPENG X9 AWD Performance – RM333,888

On-the-road prices without insurance start from RM281,073 for private registration. If you want a wallbox charger bundled in, Bermaz is offering a 7kW single-phase unit for RM4,300 and an 11kW three-phase option for RM5,000, both with installation included for up to 10 metres of cabling.

What's actually new compared to the 2025 X9

The outgoing 2025 X9 launched in March last year started from RM270,708 on-the-road, so this new model is incrementally pricier across the board. But there are legitimate upgrades to account for that.

The most notable change on the tech side is the shift in ADAS hardware. The previous X9 ran on an Nvidia Drive Orin-X chipset rated at 254 TOPS.

The new X9 steps up to XPENG's own Turing AI chip, which the company claims delivers up to 750 TOPS – nearly three times the processing headroom.

Paired with that is a reduced radar setup: the 2025 model had three millimetre-wave radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors, while the new X9 drops to a single mmWave radar and three ultrasonic radars, relying more heavily on camera-based perception. The camera count stays at 12.

Airbag count has also gone up. The outgoing X9 had six airbags; the new one gets nine. The infotainment chip has been updated too, now running a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 – a newer platform compared to what was in the previous generation.

The audio system grows from 23 speakers to 27 speakers under the XOpera badge, and the steering wheel has been swapped out for an ultra-fibre unit rather than a standard leather-wrapped one.

On the practicality side, the the third row now offers a 40/60 split fold, meaning you can fold down part of it to extend boot space while still keeping one seat usable for a passenger.

The third row gains seat heating across all variants. A smart refrigerator with a child lock has also been added at the rear. Power soft-close front doors are now standard – a small but noticeable quality-of-life addition.

Exterior colours have been reshuffled. The 2025 model came in three colours (Nebula White, Crescent Silver, Dark Night Black); the new X9 offers five: Arctic White, Midnight Black, Matte Gray, Lambent Cyan, and Polar Violet. The last is exclusive to the AWD Performance variant.

    Powertrain and range

The Standard Range variant uses a 94.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a claimed WLTP range of 535km. It's front-wheel drive with a single motor putting out 235kW and 450Nm. The Long Range gets a larger 110kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery with a 615km WLTP range on the same FWD, single-motor setup.

The AWD Performance variant also uses the 110kWh NCM pack but adds a rear induction motor, pushing combined output to 370kW and 640Nm, with a 0-100km/h time of 5.9 seconds and a 580km WLTP range.

All three variants are built on an 800V SiC platform with 5C charging capability. DC fast charging peaks at 537kW for the Standard Range and 542kW for the Long Range and AWD Performance – both able to go from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes.

For reference, the outgoing 2025 X9 used 84.5kWh LFP and 101.5kWh NMC cells, so the new X9 is working with slightly larger packs across the board. AC charging is rated at 11kW for the Long Range and AWD variants, with the Standard Range coming in at 9.5kW.

Top speed is capped at 200km/h across all variants.

    Cabin

At 5,316 x 1,988 x 1,785mm with a 3,160mm wheelbase, the X9 is a big vehicle and it will need a big parking space. Kerb weight sits between 2,745kg and 2,750kg depending on variant, with the AWD Performance at 2,690kg. Boot space is listed at 721 litres.

The cabin spec on the new X9 is extensive. Up front, both driver and passenger get 12-way electric seats with four-way lumbar support, full-grain top-layer Nappa leather, three-level heating and ventilation, massage function, and position memory with welcome mode. There are also dedicated headrest speakers for the driver and a co-pilot boss button for the front passenger to one-click adjust the seat in front.

The second row is the headline act. The Long Range and AWD Performance variants get 18-way electric adjustment, while the Standard Range gets 14-way. All second-row seats are zero-gravity capable, come with a 10-point SPA-level massage system, dual 50W wireless charging pads, heated and ventilated cushions, and an easy-entry one-click function for rear-row access.

Third row is now a proper usable space rather than an afterthought – with seat heating, electric backrest and headrest adjustment, 40/60 split fold, armrest cup holders, and an invisible sunken luggage compartment beneath.

The 21-inch (diagonal) head-up display projects ahead of the driver, while a 17.3-inch central screen handles infotainment duties on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor. The passenger gets a 21.4-inch screen of their own. There are six USB-C ports, one standard USB, and two 12V outlets throughout the cabin. Connectivity covers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OTA updates, and XPENG's own "Hey XPENG" voice assistant.

The five-zone climate system uses a windless central air-conditioning setup with CN95-grade filtration, PM2.5 monitoring, and an air quality control system. The car also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) for powering external devices.

Aerodynamically, the X9 manages a drag coefficient of 0.236 and gets an active rear-wheel steering system to help with low-speed manoeuvrability.

    ADAS and safety

XPENG calls the system on the new X9 "XPILOT Assist." It covers three areas: driving functions, parking, and active safety. Driving functions include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, adaptive turning cruise, and intelligent speed limit assist.

Parking covers automated parking, remote parking, vehicle summon, 360-degree camera, and a transparent chassis view that lets you see what's under the car.

Active safety features include forward, side, and rear collision prevention, blind spot detection, door-open warning, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and narrow path assistance.

The fatigue monitoring camera (driver state monitoring) is included, as is a sub-metre high-precision positioning unit for the navigation system.

Nine airbags are standard across all variants, alongside a Bosch IPB smart brake system, ESP, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, TPMS, front and rear ISOFIX, e-Call, uphill and downhill assistance, and an acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS) for pedestrian awareness at low speeds.

The sliding rear doors have an electronic child lock, and all seats across all three rows get proper three-point seatbelts.

    Warranty and after-sales

The package mirrors what was offered with the 2025 X9. Bermaz is giving the new X9 a five-year or 120,000km manufacturer warranty, five years or 100,000km of free service and maintenance, and an eight-year or 160,000km warranty on the high-voltage battery and motor.

The new X9 is a CBU import from China, distributed exclusively by Bermaz Xpeng Sdn Bhd through their nationwide showroom network. Bermaz's parent company CEO Dato' Sri Francis Lee noted the brand is also progressing towards CKD assembly at the EPMB facility in Melaka, though no timeline has been confirmed.

"XPENG's vision as the Explorer of Future Mobility is anchored in making cutting-edge technology accessible to all, supported by its AI Tech Tree Strategy that unites AI, energy solutions and embodied intelligence. This approach accelerates advancements across autonomous driving, robotics, flying vehicles and next-generation smart mobility while strengthening Malaysia's automotive ecosystem as XPENG moves toward establishing CKD operations at the EPMB facility in Melaka. These developments will uplift local capabilities and support the nation's transition toward a more competitive, future-ready EV landscape, further complemented by the arrival of the X9," said Dato' Sri Francis Lee, Group Chief Executive Officer of Bermaz Auto Berhad.

In the Malaysian EV MPV market, the X9 goes up against the Denza D9 (from RM259,000), Zeekr 009, and to a degree the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire for buyers crossing over from combustion vehicles.

At RM279,888, the base X9 sits above the entry-level D9 but comes in considerably better equipped than the competition in terms of raw technology.
