Next-gen 2020 Honda City spied

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda announced the arrival of a new Jazz only a while back. The Japanese automaker also confirmed that the next-gen hatch would debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. Also, the spy shots of the new Jazz looked quite promising. But what about the City, its sedan sibling? Will it also get an update?

The answer is yes. As we now have the spy shots of the next-generation City that gives us a fair idea of how the D-segment might look. The City is one of Honda’s best-selling product in the South Asia market along with many other regions.

The camouflaged Honda City was spotted at the Honda Thailand plant located in Ayuttaya. Though the images of the spied car are not clear, they do show a Civic-like front with an upswept headlight and thick grille slat. The side profile shows the return of the door-mounted outer rear view mirror, an exterior element seen in the car from 2003 to 2008. Also, visible in the image are multi-spoke alloy wheels, this might differ in the production-spec model.

The rear images of the sedan reveal a rather slim and low mounted taillight design (seems like no more C-shaped units), coupe-like windshield, and tail with an upward kick. The City also appears longer than the ongoing version.

Enough about the car’s exterior, moving to the engine department we are expecting the City to get a new turbo unit. The sedan might get the 1.0-litre mill that makes 129 PS and 200 Nm and powers the Euro-spec model. Or might feature the same tried and tested 1.5-litre unit that powers the ongoing model and churns out a maximum power of 120 PS along with a peak torque of 145 Nm. However, if it’s the same old mill, we expect Honda to re-tune it a bit for more performance and mileage.

Now that we are sure about its arrival, it’s difficult to wait for the final model to arrive. However, until that happens, check out the things we like about the ongoing City.
