Porsche revealed two luxury electric bikes in Europe
KUALA LUMPUR: Alongside the world premiere of the Taycan Cross Turismo EV, Porsche introduced its electric bicycle range to the market, including Porsche eBike Sport and the Porsche eBike Cross. Exclusively available in Europe for now, the electric bikes reflect the timeless design, outstanding technical features as well as fascination of the Porsche brand. According to the automaker, the Sport is a perfect companion for everyday life, while the Cross is ideal for rough terrain.
The e-bikes are a collective effort of Porsche Design and premium German e-bike expert Rotwild who joined hands to make these Taycan-inspired electric bicycles in Dieburg, Germany. The bikes get components from well-known bike parts makers - Shimano, Magura, and Crankbrothers.
Talking about the Porsche eBike Sport first, the bike is meant for daily rides, whether in the city or countryside, on the way to work or enjoying some leisure time. It is equipped with an ultra-compact Shimano EP8 motor providing motor support up to 25 kmph with a removable 50kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The bike’s carbon frame is linked to a Magura inverted front fork and a Fox rear monoshock in combination with smooth-running Continental Speed King road-biased tyres. For braking, there are Magura high-performance brakes that are integrated into the handlebars. Added to the equipment are a Shimano electronic 11-gear-shifting system and M99 LED lights from Supernova that are nicely embedded in the handlebar stem and aerodynamic seat post.
Moving to the eBike Cross that targets the riders who might be seeking rough terrains, the e-bike is made for the countryside and the off-the-beaten ways away from roads. And for this, Porsche has equipped the bike with Magura-MT Trail high-performance brakes with extra-large, heat-resistant brake discs ensuring optimum deceleration. Also, there is a Shimano XT 12-fold shifting system that enables fast gear changes as per the rider’s needs and the terrain.
The seat post of the electric bicycle is hydraulically adjustable from Crankbrothers and its handlebars also have a Shimano color display, which previews speed, distance, and range in real-time. The Porsche eBike Cross is slightly heavier at 22 kg as the Sport model weighs less than 21 kg.
Porsche has also developed a special rear carrier for the new Taycan that can hold these e-bikes, thanks to its long wheel rails and a high payload of 50 kilograms. Speaking about the hefty price tags, the Porsche eBike Sport is priced at £9,600 (RM 54,943), while for the Porsche eBike Cross, the customers will need to shell out a lesser amount of £7,650 (RM 43,783).
The Porsche new e-bikes are scheduled to go on sale this spring in the European market where they will be available in three different frame sizes at the company’s dealerships and some specialist bicycle outlets.
