Porsche Taycan hits 100k unit production milestone

KUALA LUMPUR: The fully-electric Porsche Taycan entered production roughly three years ago at the automaker’s Zuffenhausen assembly facility. And now we hear that the car’s 100k unit rolled out just yesterday.

The 100,000th unit is shipped to a customer in the United Kingdom and is a Turbo S variant in Neptune Blue hue.

Kevin Giek, vice president of the Porsche Taycan model line said, “We are very pleased to have reached this milestone in production history so quickly – despite the recent challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage and the volatile Covid situation. With the Taycan, we have made a decidedly successful start in the electric age.”

The Porsche Taycan is a fairly popular car in the United Kingdom and Ireland, the two contributing as its largest markets alongside China and America.

In Malaysia, the said Porsche is the first electric car by the brand available in two variants - Cross Turismo and sedan. The car’s popularity can be judged by seeing it on the road from time to time. With a starting price of RM 508,000, the rear-wheel drive Taycan enjoys the government’s tax incentives for EVs.

In the global market, the Taycan is offered in three body styles namely, sedan, Sport Turismo, and Cross Turismo. The automaker offers the car in five powertrain options for each body style, offered in both rear- and all-wheel drive variants.

As for the car’s performance ability, the Taycan reclaimed the Nurburgring EV lap record from Tesla Model S Plaid and the Turbo S recently completed the Green Hell lap in 7 mins and 33 secs.
