Say hello to new 2020 Toyota Yaris

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota has unveiled the 2020 Yaris, which has been designed from the ground up. It is the first compact car to get the new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. Apparently, the latest version is lighter, more rigid, and comes with a lower centre of gravity.

The 2020 Toyota Yaris has got a major overhaul in terms of design. It looks more muscular with an aggressive front.

New Toyota Yaris will arrive with three trim levels each for 1-litre, 1.5-litre hybrid, and 1.5-litre powertrain options. The hatch will be available with 12 color options with Coral Crystal Shine and Pink Metallic as the new options. Additionally, six dual-tone color schemes will also be made available with either black or white paint on the roof.

The all-new Toyota Yaris line-up also gets a new engine trim, a 1.5-litre M15A Dynamic Force unit. It is further paired with six-speed manual gearbox, while there is a direct-shift CVT option too. The engine can be equipped with either AWD or FWD.

The new Yaris base variant gets a 1.0-litre 1KR engine, which is mated to a Super CVT-i transmission. Now, the engine’s exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate is higher, tumble flow has increased, and the friction is reduced.

For the Yaris hybrid option, the car gets the THS II (Toyota Hybrid System II ) electrified powertrain. It includes a 1.5-litre M15A Dynamic Force engine having an electric drive. There are electric four-wheel-drive (E-four) and FWD configurations too. Suspension wise, there is a MacPherson unit at the front, while for the rear one, there is double-wishbone rear suspension for the E-Four AWD versions. The torsion beam is present for the FWD ones.

2020 Yaris specs come with the Toyota Safety Sense active safety suite. Moreover, other features include Low-Speed Acceleration Control, Secondary Collision Brake, Lane Tracing Assist, auto high beam, road sign assist, etc.
