GTI officially on sale, R-Line on display
While the Golf GTI is now available for purchase, the Golf R-Line remains under preview ahead of its official market release.
The GTI is priced from RM255,990 including the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP). As part of a launch promotion, the first 50 customers to register by 31 December 2025 can secure the GTI at an early-bird price of RM249,990 (with VAP, Special Promo-first 50 units only, with registration by 31 December 2025).
Both models receive visual updates that modernise the Golf’s timeless silhouette. The refreshed front end now carries Volkswagen’s illuminated logo — a first for the brand in Malaysia — flanked by IQ.LIGHT 3D LED Matrix headlights and animated LED taillights.
Subtle aerodynamic enhancements and new underbody panels improve stability and airflow. The R-Line wears sportier bumpers, side skirts, and a chrome-finished rear diffuser, while the GTI gets its signature honeycomb grille and dual chrome exhaust outlets.
The new Golfs adopt a fully digital layout featuring a 12.9-inch MIB4 infotainment system and a 10-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrument display. The new interface supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and integrates Volkswagen’s IDA voice assistant for hands-free control.
The three-zone climate control system includes an air filter and separate rear vents, while both variants add illuminated touch sliders for temperature and volume adjustments.
Comfort touches differ slightly: the R-Line features fabric seats with “Artvelours” inserts and a seven-speaker system, whereas the GTI steps up with Vienna leather sport seats and a Harman Kardon nine-speaker sound system delivering 480 watts of output.
Engines and performance
Under the hood, the Golf R-Line runs a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid turbocharged engine producing 150 PS and 250 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. The setup enables a 0–100 km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds and returns 5.2 L/100 km fuel economy.
The Golf GTI continues to be the enthusiast’s pick, with its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine now tuned to 265 PS — 20 PS more than before — mated to the same 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Safety and assistance
Both variants feature Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE driver-assistance suite. Key systems include Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control with Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Park Distance Control, and Driver Attention Detection.
These combine to provide semi-autonomous capability and improve everyday usability, particularly in stop-and-go traffic.
“The Golf family has never been ordinary; it is your everyday made exciting and your drives made unforgettable,” said Renate Noessler, Managing Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia.
She added, “The new Golf R-Line is proof that sporty can also mean sensible — fuel efficient without losing style. And with the new GTI, we’re giving our fans more power, sharper design, and smarter technology, ensuring it continues to thrill in performance and handling.”
Colours, wheels, and aftersales
Both models are available in Oryx White, Moonstone Grey, Grenadilla Black, Kings Red, and Anemone Blue.
The R-Line rides on 17-inch ‘Coventry’ alloy wheels, while the GTI is fitted with 18-inch ‘Richmond’ alloys wrapped in 225/40 R18 tyres.
Every Golf GTI purchase comes with five years of free maintenance, a five-year unlimited-mileage warranty, and five years of complimentary roadside assistance under the VAP.
Even as SUVs dominate modern roads, the Golf continues to carry its own weight as a practical yet engaging hatchback. The new GTI keeps the spirit of the “hot hatch” alive, while the upcoming R-Line aims to offer a sportier daily-driving alternative with hybrid efficiency.
