2018 Toyota Vios: What it offers?
The Toyota Vios has been a very popular sedan in almost all the countries it is presently sold in. And the story isn’t very different in Malaysia. The car does pretty well in the market despite facing tough competition from the top players like Honda City, Kia Rio, and the Mazda 2 sedan.
The 2018 Toyota Vios was launched in the Q1 of the year and the sale commences at the same time. At the time the sedan was announced, Toyota claimed that this new update will offer a better value for money in comparison to its predecessor.
But is it really as good as the company claims it to be? Let’s have a look.
Exterior
The Toyota Vios 2018 is a perfect combination of sportiness and road-bias when it comes to the aesthetics. The front portion is slightly different than most of the cars in the segment. The front grille is slightly slim with two slats of chrome passing through. The DRLs are detached from the projector headlamps and are placed slightly below the usual mark. The bumper gets a lot of black plastic cladding, including the fog lamps.
The roofline is sharp and the C-pillars are very slanting. The wraparound tail lights extend almost up to the C-pillar. There is a sharp piece of chrome riding on the rear panel along the boot lid.
Interior
The interior of the Toyota Vios gets black and grey scheme on the side and some other bits. However, the seats on the TRD Sportivo get red piping on them. The dashboard is clean and more convenient as the 6.2-inch display screen is placed over the AC vents, which means that the driver will not have to take his eyes off the road for a long time to glance at the display.
There are a lot of storage spaces everywhere including a cup holder just beside the steering. Moreover, Toyota claimed that it is the first car in the segment to get front parking sensors. However, there isn’t an option for automatic climate control on any of the trims.
Engine & Transmission
Under the hood, the Toyota Vios 2018 continues to be powered by the same engine. The 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i engine manages to produce a maximum power of 107 bhp at 6,000 revs per minute along with a peak torque of 140 Nm at 4,200 revs per minute. The power is sent down to the front wheels via a 7-speed M-mode CVT gearbox.
Safety & Convenience
Toyota has done really well to keep the safety parameter on a high in the 2018 Vios. Parking aid includes rear parking camera and front sensors. Also, vehicle stability control offers stability in tight situations, including when braking on the corners. Added to this, the solar film on the glass helps reduce heat build-up within the cabin. Also, the glass is tougher than before to prevent break-ins and thefts.
ABS, along with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist are also provided just for extra protection when you apply brakes on a high speed.
Conclusion
The 2018 Toyota Vios is a wonderful car to consider in the B-segment sedan space. It seriously gives its competitors a run for their money. It ranks pretty well in almost all the departments, be it design, features within and on the safety parameter. The engine has a decent grunt too, which means on its day, it can pin down any of its competitors on the high road. With so much on offer, the 2018 Toyota Vios is definitely worth every bit of appreciation.
