MG S5 EV CKD: All you need to know

    Price

The MG S5 CKD is offered in a sole Lux variant priced at RM 116,900 (on-the-road without insurance). This is almost RM 10,000 less than the reduced price of the fully-imported EV announced in October 2025.

The warranty package includes a seven-year, 150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year, 180,000 km battery pack warranty, and an eight-year, 160,000 km drive motor control unit warranty.

    Drivetrain, battery, and range

The locally assembled version of the EV offers extra power and torque. Built on MG’s dedicated rear-wheel-drive electric platform, the MGS5 CKD EV is capable of generating up to 203 PS of maximum power and 350 Nm of torque, which is 34 hp and 100 Nm more than the CBU counterpart.

The CKD version combines everyday practicality with dynamic driving performance and delivers stronger acceleration and improved responsiveness.

In terms of battery pack, the CKD remains the same as the CBU model, featuring a 62 kWh LFP unit, which offers a WLTP-claimed range of 446 km, making the EV suitable for both daily commuting and longer journeys. Notably, the EV comes with a horizontal ultra-thin battery layout that contributes to improved cabin space, lower centre of gravity, and enhanced driving stability.

As far as the charging is concerned, the MGS5 EV supports ultra-fast DC charging of up to 150kW, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes.

    Exterior

In terms of exterior, the locally-assembled MGS5 EV retains the same dimensions and design as its imported counterpart. The electric SUV measures 4,476 mm in length, 1,849 mm in width, and 1,621 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,730 mm.

As for design, it exudes a bold and modern vibe thanks to striking LED headlamps incorporating ‘Racing Flag’ themed daytime running lights and MG’s signature Arch tail lights with the same distinctive motif.

Other key exterior highlights include - Active Grille System, power-foldable side mirrors, a power tailgate with kick sensor, and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 225/55 R18 Bridgestone Turanza T005 tyres. Available colour options are - Grey, Silver, and Gold.

    Interior

The interior adopts a minimalistic approach with clean lines, smart storage options, and advanced technology. The locally assembled model comes equipped with full leatherette seats instead of the leather and fabric combination found in the CBU, along with powered and ventilated front seats.

Local assembly at PEPS-JV (Melaka) facility

The local assembly of the MGS5 EV is carried out at the PEPS-JV facility in Pegoh, Melaka, in partnership with EP Manufacturing Berhad. Supporting MG’s broader regional growth ambitions, the Pegoh facility is capable of assembling pure EVs, HEVs, and ICE models.

The production capacity for the MGS5 EV is estimated at between 120 and 180 units per month, with an estimated annual output of approximately 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles in 2026.

“The official launch of the locally assembled MGS5 EV marks an important milestone for MG in Malaysia,” said Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia. “It reflects our continued commitment to localisation, innovation and delivering electric vehicles that combine performance, technology and practicality for Malaysian customers.”

He added, “With the MGS5 EV, we are proud to introduce a model that not only strengthens our EV portfolio, but also represents our confidence in Malaysia as a strategic market and manufacturing hub for MG in the region.”
