2016 Honda Civic Sedan Spied with No Camouflage
Kuala Lumpur: Ahead of its global debut on September 16 in Los Angeles, an undisguised pre-production 2016 Honda Civic sedan was seen in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since then, the internet has been flooded with its spy shots. This American spec sedan matches the patent drawings which were seen earlier. Last time, Honda reworked this sedan with 2012 model which was criticized for lackluster styling, a cheap interior and carryover base powertrain. But this time it carries quite a few big promises and changes along with it.

This all-new sedan would get a sporty exterior along with a coupe-like roofline. Its aggressive styling is further accentuated by a thick chrome grille that is part of the new 'H' design philosophy. The chrome accent can also be noticed on door handles and window trim. It has got large air intakes in the front fascia and a hood that extends deep into the area which was once occupied by front fenders. Its sleek roofline ends with boomerang-shaped tail lamps that extend from the rear quarter panel into a truncated trunk lid.

Overall, it clearly bears a heavy resemblance to the green concept which was revealed some months ago. The Civic sedan will also initiate coupe and hatchback siblings as well. Moving towards the interior, it would feature a more conventional dashboard design instead of a dual-tier instrument cluster which was seen in previous two generations.
For this sedan, Honda would be dropping the natural gas and hybrid variants, but will be bringing the new turbo Type R with a turbocharged engine. It is being speculated that the new Civic would be offered with a choice of two engines. The first one being a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated VTEC engine and the other one being a 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo engine. The latter engine is also integrated into Honda StepWGN and Jade RS models and churns out a maximum power of 150 PS along with 203 Nm of peak torque. These engines would be mated with a short-shift six-speed transmission or an optional CVT.
