2020 Honda City makes an official debut in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: The Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda makes the official debut of the fifth-generation Honda City in Thailand. The B-segment sedan now gets a smoother and more rounded finish if compared to the previous fourth-generation model. However, the front design of the latest City remains similar as it continues to flaunt Honda’s Solid Wing face. It also comes with “jewel eye” headlight (influenced from Civic) and a wide chrome bar connecting them.

Moving to the side of the vehicle, it looks quite similar to the previous generations, and there’s not much new in the 2020 City. The only distinct character line can be spotted starting from the top of the headlights, and instead of proceeding below the door handle, it moves above them. In addition to that, rearview mirrors are repositioned from the A-pillars to the door for enhanced visibility.

On the corner of the front bumpers, you can spot large functional corner “inlets”, and the lower intake gets a body-coloured strip at the foot and the remaining part is completely blacked out. The 2020 Honda City is now powered by a 1.0 litre (998cc) direct-injected, three-cylinder DOHC turbocharged petrol motor, which is capable of churning out 122 PS of maximum power at 5,500 rpm and 173 Nm of peak torque from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm.

The power is sent to the wheels via a seven-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT), and there’s no manual transmission on offer. Other engine specs include dual Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC), a BorgWarner single-scroll turbocharger, and Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC).

According to the carmaker, the latest City is 53 mm wider (1,748 mm) and 113 mm longer (4,553 mm), than its previous model. However, it gets a 10 mm decrease in height (1,467 mm) and an 11 mm decrease in the wheelbase (2,589 mm).

The layout of the dashboard is completely changed and seems to be inspired by the Jazz. The latest generation City comes with a price tag of 579,500 baht (RM80,035) for the base trim and 609,000 baht (RM84,107) for the V trim. The top of the line RS costs 739,000 baht (RM102,061).
