2020 Proton X70 CKD: Official teaser out, know the changes

KUALA LUMPUR: It is not more than forty-eight hours when we reported about the Proton X70 leak that happened on The Ajerul’s Facebook page, with some of its exterior and interior pictures along with a specification slide. Now, the automaker has released an official teaser video revealing absolutely nothing about the upcoming SUV, other than its launch timing- February 12, 2020, at 3PM. 

According to the leaked specification slide, there will be four variants on offer, including Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, Premium 2WD and Premium 2WD X. Based on the leaked images, we know that the CKD Proton X70 is similar to its CBU version with a few changes like -

• A new Proton “tiger head” logo at the front
• Traditional grille is flanked by bigger headlamps with DRLs
• The bumpers have been refreshed as well
• The rear section features PROTON lettering in the centre, an integrated spoiler on the tailgate and wrap-around taillights

• Inside, the steering wheel gets a new Proton logo and a redesigned gear selector with “P” button at the top
• There is a new 7-speed DCT automatic transmission instead of the 6-speed torque converter automatic as seen on the CBU version

• Feature-wise, the X70 gets 60:40 split-folding rear seats as standard
• Features like front ventilated seats and a powered tailgate are a part of Executive variant and above
• Foot sensor for the powered tailgate can be had with the Premium variants.
• For more premium touch, the top-of-the-line Premium X model gets a panoramic sunroof, not as standard but as an option based on customer’s demand

Under the hood, the new 2020 X70 will be powered by the same 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, with power and torque outputs as 184 PS and 300 Nm between 1,750 and 4,000 rpm respectively, coupled with the new 7-speed DCT automatic transmission.

Proton has released the teaser video on the social media keeping everything in disguise. You can, however, see the lights illuminating and a little of the front fascia.
