2021 Ford Everest launched in Thailand with a honeycomb grille

KUALA LUMPUR: Ford Everest received an all-black variant called Endeavour Sport last year in Thailand. It has become a big hit in the Land of Smiles with almost half of the Everest buyers opted for the new trim. Following its success, the American automaker has decided to bring some of its athletic elements across the updated lineup. 

In the latest avatar, the Ford Everest boasts a tweaked front grille that now has a honeycomb pattern in place of chrome slatted design seen on the outgoing model. The new grille makes the SUV’s front look much similar to the Endeavour Sport. Apart from this, the Thai-spec SUV also comes with a much bolder Everest badging on the bonnet and chrome wing mirrors and door handles. 

Ford has also introduced two new colours for the SUV: Snow Flake White Pearl for Trend, Titanium, and Titanium+; and Deep Crystal Blue for the Titanium Sport. 

Other than this nip and tuck, the rest of the Everest remains unchanged. The higher-spec variants are powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that generates 213 PS of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The lower variants also have the same engine, but with just a single turbo delivering 170 PS and 420 Nm. Both mills are mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Also, Ford’s Thai buyers now get a 10 year/150,000km powertrain warranty on the engine, transmission, and front and rear axles.

The 2021 Ford Everest price for the base Trend starts at 1,299,000 baht (RM 173,900), while the range-topping Titanium+ Bi-Turbo is priced at 1,799,000 baht (RM 240,800).

We expect Ford to update the Malaysian-spec Everest with these changes soon. Currently, Sime Darby Auto Connexion offers the SUV in two variants - Trend and Titanium powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine churning out different levels of outputs for the trims. With a price band of RM 228,888-RM 268,888, it rivals the Toyota Fortuner, Honda CR-V, and VW Tiguan Allspace.
