2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA CKD: Full details

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has a new family member, the all-new A-Class Sedan CKD and alongside it launched the locally-assembled GLA. Here we will be focusing on the latter introduction and discuss it in detail. So, let’s get started.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA variants

Like the CBU model, the Mercedes-Benz GLA CKD model is offered in two variants - the GLA 200 Progressive and the GLA 250 AMG Line.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA price

Both the GLA CKD variants specs sheet tally with that of the imported versions, however, local assembly makes them cheaper. The base GLA 200 retails for RM 232,379 and the range-topping GLA 250 AMG is priced at RM 266,164. The prices are on-the-road without insurance with sales and service tax exemption.

This makes the locally-assembled GLA models RM 11,821 and RM 19,173 cheaper than the imported model, with SST in place.

Post the SST exemption period, the CKD versions price will be revised to RM 242,888 and RM 278,888, for the GLA 200 and GLA 250 AMG, respectively. With full regulation pricing, the GLA 200 is RM 10000 and GLA 250 RM 17,000 cheaper than the CBU version that would have gone for RM 252,888 and RM 295,888.

2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA engine

Under the hood configuration remains the same as before. The GLA 200 is powered by a Renault-sourced 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine making a maximum power of 163 PS at 5,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 250 Nm from 1,620 to 4,000 rpm. This mill is paired with a Getrag seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The setup enables the model to complete the century sprint in 8.7 seconds before attaining a top speed of 210 kmph.

The range-topping GLA 250 model, on the other hand, is powered by a 2.0-litre unit that pumps out a maximum power of 224 PS at 5,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 350 Nm from 1,500 - 4,500 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via an 8-speed DCT. On the performance front, the car touches 100 kmph mark in 6.9 seconds and attains a top speed of 240 kmph.

Both the models benefit from - LED High-Performance headlights, aluminium roof rails, and a mirror package. While the base model rides on 18-inch five-twin-spoke alloy wheels, the GLA 250 gets the two-tone 19-inch AMG five-twin-spoke alloys.

The GLA 200 also gets AMG Line body styling elements that include - a front spoiler, a trapezoidal grille with chrome pins, and gloss black trim.
