2021 Toyota Corolla 50 million edition rolled out in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: Available since 1966, the Toyota Corolla achieved an important milestone of crossing the 50 million mark in global sales this year. To honor this achievement, the Japanese automaker recently introduced the “Corolla 50 million edition” in Japan. The special model is available in three body versions - Corolla sedan, Corolla Sport hatchback, and Corolla Touring estate. 

Let’s talk about their prices first. Toyota retails the Corolla Sport for ¥2,830,000 (RM 103,009), the Corolla sedan for ¥2,835,000 (RM 103,191), and the Corolla Touring for ¥2,884,500 (RM 104,986).

What powers the 2021 Toyota Corolla 50 million edition?

All the versions of the 2021 Toyota Corolla 50 million edition are powered by a hybrid system comprising a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre engine and an electric motor. The combined system output is rated at 122 PS. As for the transmission, it gets a CVT gearbox sending power to the front wheels.

The special Toyota Corolla models feature many aesthetic tweaks that make them stand out from the standard trims. These include a glossy black lower grille, rear spoiler, and new wheels. The sedan and estate carry 17-inch matte black aluminum wheels wrapped with 215/45R17 tyres while the hatchback gets 16-inch units with 205/55R16 tyres. A “50 Million Edition” badge is also positioned on the front fenders of the cars.

Included in the 2021 Toyota Corolla 50 million edition colour choices are Army Rock Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Slate Gray Metallic, and Precious Metal. Toyota Japan also offers the option of a black roof with certain colours.

Included in the interior highlights are synthetic leather upholstery with red, gold, or orange stitching and “50 Million Edition” badges all around.
