2023 Honda Civic Type R finally gets a debut date

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda has been teasing the camouflaged pictures of the all-new Civic Type R prototype for months now. But today, it has finally revealed the first glimpse of the production model along with the announcement of the hatchback’s world debut date. The much-awaited reveal will happen on July 20 2022, with a schedule of hitting the US showrooms early next year.

Here’s what to expect from the 2023 Honda Civic Type R -

• Design-wise, Honda’s updated monster benefits from the new front fascias with fender flares, wider wheels, beefier tyres and a diffuser.
• The teased image of the road-ready model showcases a red Honda badge and a Type R emblem positioned on the front grille. The latter features a honeycomb pattern

• The revamped rear fascia continues to feature the giant rear wing with the brand’s signature new triple exhaust pipes 
• While there are no official details on the new Civic Type R engine setup, the reports suggest an upgraded version of the 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder from the FK8, which kicks out 320 PS of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque
• On the transmission front, it is likely to be a six-speed manual gearbox handling the duties with a limited-slip differential
• Further, it is assumed that the huge tyres will be accompanied by a Brembo braking system
• A snappier suspension system is also expected for a sharper handling

Overall, the upcoming Civic Type R is expected to be more powerful and striking than its predecessor. Backing our statement is Honda USA's press release, which addresses the upcoming version as "the most powerful Honda-branded production vehicle ever offered in the US.”
