2023 Honda Civic Type R reportedly leaked before debut

KUALA LUMPUR: We have been waiting for the new Honda Civic Type R launch for a long time, and just last week, we got the first official glimpse of the road-ready hot hatchback along with the confirmation of its debut date i.e. July 20. Well, just a week ahead of that, the leaked image of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R has surfaced online.

A member of the Civic11Forum named Palmer8 spotted this image at Honda’s visitor centre website (Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama), alongside other models that will be showcased. 

So, what does this single leaked image tell us about the upcoming monster, let’s know.

• The leaked shot previews the front quarter shot of the upcoming Civic Type R painted in a white shade
• The design looks far better than the predecessor with an aggressive bumper, reworked grille, and bonnet, wider tyres, new gloss black side skirts and gloss black mirror caps.
• A sweet all-black wing piece at the back is also visible
• The brakes of the revamped hatch appear to be beefier and are paired with red calipers
• Although the leaked picture does not preview the car’s interior, we can spot the all-red seats through the windows

While the automaker has yet to unveil the car’s complete technical details, we do know that it will be front-wheel-drive, likely to be powered by an upgraded version of the ongoing 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mill. In the current form, the said powertrain delivers a maximum power output of 320 PS and a peak torque of 400 Nm. On the transmission front, the car is expected to get a 6-speed manual gearbox along with a limited-slip differential.
