2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia: Porsche Malaysia to make debut with Sime Darby Racing Team

KUALA LUMPUR: Represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance, Porsche Malaysia has geared up to bring an unforgettable experience for racing enthusiasts at the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. The marque has introduced the Sime Darby Racing Team for this exhilarating motorsports competition, in partnership with Earl Bamber Motorsport (EBM). 

The Malaysian team will be competing in the PCCA PRO category with young Malaysian race driver Nazim Azman (former FIA Formula 3 race driver) behind the wheel of the 911 GT3 Cup car. The racing car incorporates a batik-inspired livery.

Speaking about the upcoming Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, it will be the 20th season of the renowned racing event launched in 2003. While confined to China for the last two seasons, it will span across the continent this year. The 2023 season will begin in Malaysia and continue through Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Singapore before finishing up in Shanghai, China.

With equal technical standards across the field and the seventh-gen GT3 Cup race car, the upcoming motorsports event seems to bring more downforce and technology than ever. 

The team is built by Earl Bamber, who is a renowned name in global motorsports with titles like double PCCA champion, accomplished Porsche Works driver, and two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner under his belt.

Nazim Azman, Malaysian race driver representing Sime Darby Racing Team said, “It is my pleasure to partner with Porsche Malaysia and Earl Bamber Motorsport to represent the Sime Darby Racing Team at the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2023. As this is my first time racing a GT car for a full season, I believe that this opportunity will widen my horizons and experiences in GT racing. I’d like to thank the team for the support and will strive to do my best to step up in the upcoming race.“

The 2023 PCCA Malaysia schedule is as follows:

Rounds 9 and 10 will coincide with the Round 3 of the Malaysia Championship Series at the circuit.
