5-door Suzuki Jimny launched in India; offers better practicality

KUALA LUMPUR: After making its global debut at Auto Expo 2023 in January, the 5-door Suzuki Jimny has finally launched in India. Unlike the Malaysian-spec 3-door model, the Indian Jimmy has two additional doors that boost the practicality of the off-roader. 

India is the first market to get the elongated Jimny as it is specifically developed for the country. The SUV is produced at the company’s Gurugram plant, from where it will be exported to other markets as well. 

The 5-door Suzuki Jimny comes in two variants - Zeta and Alpha in India. The price starts at INR 12,74,000 (RM 71,118) and goes all the way up to INR 15,05,000 (RM 84,013). Contrary to that, the three-door Jimny is being offered in a sole variant in Malaysia, priced at RM 174,900.

Under the hood of the India-spec Jimny lies a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing a maximum power of 105 hp and a peak torque of 134 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic. 

Making the SUV off-road ready is a rugged, ladder-frame chassis, Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system, and low range gearbox with different modes (2WD-high, 4WD-high, and 4WD-low). Also part of the pack is an electronic traction control system and a 3-link rigid axle suspension setup.
