All-new Lexus NX is coming to Malaysia; two variants on cards

KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently that Lexus launched the all-new NX in Indonesia and now it's Malaysia’s turn to welcome the brand’s first PHEV. Well, an official confirmation is still due from Lexus Malaysia but reliable sources say the car is coming, and that too with two variant options.

The Malaysia-spec NX variant options include - NX 350 and NX 250.

Powering the former is a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol mill making a maximum power output of 279 PS along with a peak torque of 430 Nm. The drive will be sent down to the wheels via an 8-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission. This setup will help the NX 350 complete the century sprint in just 7 seconds.

 

As for the NX 250, it will be fueled by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit making 260 PS and 243 Nm of torque. Like its sibling, it is also paired to an 8-speed Direct Shift Gearbox.

As for the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants offered in other markets, they expect Lexus Malaysia to arrange them for interested customers on a special order basis. As is the case with Lexus LS, Lexus GS, Lexus RX, and previous-gen Lexus ES.

Rumour around the market is that Lexus Malaysia will launch the NX 350 in Q2 2022 with the NX 250 arriving a few months later.

No word on the pricing yet, however, we expect the new NX to not be cheap. For a hint, we can say it would cost higher than the ongoing model that retails for between RM 306,117 to RM 339,018.
