Alpina tunes BMW 7 Series 750i xDrive

KUALA LUMPUR: Alpina is one of the most popular auto tuners in the world and is best known for its work on BMW cars. Hence, with the debut of the G11/G12 7 Series last month, the auto-tuners have unveiled its latest work, the B7 xDrive, a car based on the 750i xDrive.

The Alpina-tuned xDrive showcases some significant changes, both aesthetically and mechanically. The impellers on the exhaust side are bigger in diameter. Plus, the engine management software is new too, which makes for the maximum torque to arrive sooner than it did before - 2,000 rpm instead of the standard 3,000 rpm. The cooling system now comes with high-volume coolers.

However, the most notable change on the mechanical aspect has come in the form of the engine output. The 4.4-litre, V8, twin-turbocharged engine makes 608 PS of power and 800 Nm of torque. This increased power and torque allows the car to zoom past the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in just 3.6 seconds before getting to a top speed of 330 kmph. This seems to be a huge improvement over the standard model as the BMW 750i xDrive make 530 PS of power and 750 Nm of torque. The 8-speed automatic transmission has also been revised to work better with the powerful V8 engine.

On the exterior side, the front bumper has been revised, and there are functional air intakes. There is a stainless steel sports exhaust system too, along with two elliptical twin tailpipes. The B7 xDrive rides on 20-inch or 21-inch (optional) wheels wrapped in Michelin tyres. Larger disc brakes and brake-by-wire system handle the braking duties.

The cabin is well insulated and comfortable, thanks to the extra-insulated B-pillars and new shields on the wheel arches (rear). Also, the front windshield glass on the Alpina B7 xDrive is 5 mm thicker than the stock BMW 750i xDrive.
