  • But wait, before you get all excited we’d like to point out an important detail. The new Aston Martin mild-hybrid DBX is limited to the Chinese market. And a company spokesman has confirmed to the recognised auto portal, Autocar UK, that the car won’t be sold outside China.

The ongoing Aston Martin DBX is currently powered by Mercedes-AMG sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. However, it won’t be the case with the upcoming Chinese-specific model as large-displacement engines carry a significant import tax of almost 25 percent.

So, what will power the upcoming DBX SUX? With the obvious shift to a smaller mild-hybrid mill, the SUV is expected to be powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged unit with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The same setup energises the Mercedes-AMG E 53 wherein it makes a maximum power output of 435 hp.

On the engine front, Moers said, “A mild-hybrid in-line six perfectly fits the expectation of our customers in China.”

What’s in stock for the rest of the automotive markets?

A new version of the Aston Martin DBX will be introduced next year and Moers hints towards it being a high-performance model. This particular DBX is expected to be powered by the same mill that powers the AMG’s GT 63 S, i.e., a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 mill pumping 639 hp of power.

Furthermore, a plug-in hybrid DBX trim is part of Aston Martin’s facelift model itinerary for 2024. Thinking won’t it be late by then to introduce a PHEV powertrain model seeing how other automakers have already dropped PHEV models? Well, Aston Martin doesn’t think so and is confident about not losing any market share in the category.

Overall, the DBX SUV has proved very successful for Aston Martin and has earned it great sales figures.
