BMW i4 M50 safety car revealed for the upcoming MotoE World Cup
KUALA LUMPUR: Two months back, the German auto giant BMW yanked the silks off the all-new i4 M50 that is the first all-electric performance car from the brand’s M division. The model is due to launch in November this year, but before that here we see it in a new avatar as a part of the promotion. The new BMW i4 M50 becomes a safety car and is ready to make its first dynamic appearance at MotoGP’s FIM Enel MotoE World Cup event
This electric motorcycle series will happen in Austria from August 15, 2021, at the Red Bull Ring. and the BMW i4 M50 will replace the i8 Safety Car that previously led the field at the said event.
For the MotoE world cup, BMW painted the performance EV with a dark grey colour along with some contrasting green stripes and branding. The car also gets accents of the signature M colours viz. light blue, dark blue, and red. The phrase “Born Electric In M Town” is also placed on the EV’s front fender. Besides redesigned livery, the BMW safety car benefits from an essential light bar on the roof and some additional blue lights inside the kidney grille.
Under the metal skin, the performance version of the i4 is equipped with two electric motors which together produce a maximum power output of 544 PS and a peak torque of 795 Nm. The power drives all wheels and enables the EV to hit a century sprint in 3.9 seconds. Further, it gets an 80.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, which is able to provide a WLTP range of 510 km on a single charge.
Commenting on BMW's first zero-emissions safety car, the company’s M division CEO Markus Flasch said, “With the first M BEV we are setting course for a future in which the combination of extremely sporty performance vehicles and electrification is an exciting theme. We are showing that everything people have come to value about M – the typical emotional M driving experience with sportiness, power, and dynamics – is also possible in a fully-electric vehicle.”
