BMW X3 has no indication of tampering, Clarifies Auto Bild

Kuala Lumpur: Earlier it was reported that the nitrogen oxide levels of a BMW X3 xDrive 20d exceed the ICCT test Euro 6 limit to eleven times during the tests conducted by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). However, the German publication Auto Bild has clarified the matter stating that there are “No evidence of emission manipulation by BMW.”

According to the publication the values mentioned in the document were only generated in a single, one hour-long road test. The values which were determined in a one-hour driving test on the road could only explain the deviations from the test cycle. However, the publication has no access to the details of this test trail, which might explain the discrepancies to the test cycle NEDC (New European Driving Cycle).

BMW spokesman further added to this: "BMW Group does not manipulate or rig any emissions tests, also the company being meticulous observes the legal requirements in each country and fulfill all local testing requirements.” He further said: "After two studies conducted by the ICCT, BMW X5, as well as 13 other tested BMW vehicles, comply with the legal requirements concerning NOx emissions. The facts in AUTO BILD results regarding the emissions of the BMW X3 in the course of road tests are unspecified. We will contact the ICCT and ask for clarification of conducted testing on the road. "

This misunderstood press release has caused a considerable damage to the company. As BMW's stocks fell by as much as 9.7% following the surfacing of the ABreport, according to Bloomberg. Apart from the Volkswagen and BMW another German auto giant got inadvertently affected by the probe, Daimler also faced shares plummet by as much as 5.8% last week.
