BYD Atto 3 achieves 1M sales milestone in just 3 years

KUALA LUMPUR: First introduced in February 2022, the BYD Atto 3 has reached a significant milestone in the global market. Cumulative global sales of the electric SUV have surpassed the 1 million mark, confirmed the automaker on its official Weibo page.

Interestingly, the Atto 3 took just three years and four months to achieve this milestone. Known as the Yuan Plus in China, this global model has a presence in more than 100 markets, including Malaysia.

The Atto 3 belongs to BYD’s Dynasty series and becomes the third model in the lineup, after the Song and Qin, to cross the million-unit mark. Meanwhile, the brand’s electric hatchback, the Seagull (belongs to the Ocean series), achieved the same feat in just two years, highlighting BYD’s growing dominance in the EV space.

BYD Atto 3 in Malaysia

The Atto 3 made its way to Malaysia in late 2022. It remained the undisputed leader in the Malaysian electric vehicle market throughout 2024, however, the top spot has now been taken up by the Proton e.MAS 7. BYD sold 2,969 units of the EV last year, closely followed by the Seal with 2,958 units.

As of April 2025, the BYD Atto 3 holds third place in the EV sales chart with 727 units year-to-date sales, sharing the spot with its stablemate, the BYD M6. Leading the pack is the Proton e.MAS 7 with 2,537 units, followed by the BYD Sealion 7 in second place with 1,234 units YTD.

BYD launched the 2025 model year of the Atto 3 in Malaysia back in March, rebranding it as the Atto 3 Ultra. The latest version arrived with a significant price drop, aimed at responding to the Proton EV’s pricing, which ranges from RM 109,800 to RM 123,800.
