Chery Tiggo 7 Sport to launch in China next month with Range Rover-like design

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery is set to expand its portfolio in China with the addition of an all-new striking SUV, the Tiggo 7 Sport. While the name suggests that it might be a sportier variant of the existing Tiggo 7, the Chery Tiggo 7 Sport is a completely new model resulting from Chery's partnership with Jaguar Land Rover in China.

In terms of design, the Chery Tiggo 7 Sport boasts a striking resemblance to the Range Rover Evoque, especially from the front. The prominent mesh grille, air inlet design as well as daytime running lights. all look similar to that of the Range Rover Evoque.

The SUV also shares some design elements, such as hidden door handles and roof racks, with the Chery Tansuo 06, which is known as the Jaecoo J7 in Malaysia. However, the new model is tailored more towards urban users compared to the Tansuo 06 which focuses on off-road endeavours.

Inside, the upcoming Chery Tiggo 7 Sport will have a floating instrument cluster, a large Infotainment screen, and a distinctive drive selector, reflecting a modern interior design. 

While the technical details of the Tiggo 7 Sport are still under wraps, the SUV is expected to get the same 1.6-litre turbocharged engine available on the Jaecoo J7. The said mill generates a maximum power of 197 PS and a peak torque of 290 Nm. Power is sent to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options are available.

Speaking of the availability and price, the Chery Tiggo 7 Sport is set to hit the Chinese showrooms in September this year. The price is anticipated to be around CNY 100,000 (approximately equal to RM 61,256). 

For now, it remains unknown as to whether the Chery Tiggo 7 Sport will be heading to Malaysia or not.
