GWM Malaysia records steady performance in Q1 2026; Wey G9 becomes No.1 luxury MPV

KUALA LUMPUR: Great Wall Motors Malaysia has revealed its sales numbers for Q1 2026. During the first quarter of the year, the company showcased a steady performance, despite a slightly slower automotive market.

Building on Q4 2025 momentum, the brand continued to benefit from rising demand for its electrified vehicles (HEVs, PHEVs, and BEVs), thereby strengthening its position.

    Key models driving growth

    Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV

    • The MPV has emerged as the No.1 Chinese luxury MPV in Malaysia for Q1 2026.
    • Highlights the growing demand for PHEVs combining electric driving capability with long-distance flexibility. 

    Haval H6 HEV

    • Building on a strong 2025 performance, the H6 HEV remained a key contributor in the brand’s total sales.
    • Continues to appeal to buyers with its fuel efficiency, practicality and lower cost of ownership. 

    Tank 500

    • Strengthened its position as a lifestyle and off-road-focused SUV, with further growth momentum expected with the upcoming launch of the hybrid trim

    Tank 300

    • Gradually expanding its presence in the premium SUV segment, with its refined blend of comfort, capability and luxury. 

    Ora Good Cat

    • Continued to be an accessible urban EV option, supported by growing demand for EVs among urban buyers.

Our performance reflects growing confidence in the brand, supported by a balanced product portfolio and our continued commitment to long-term value,” said Managing Director of GWM Malaysia, Mr. Cui Anqi.

    Focus on upcoming Autoshows

    Great Wall Motors Malaysia is expected to get further momentum and increased brand visibility with its presence at the upcoming KL International Mobility Show 2026 and Penang Autoshow 2026. These platforms will strengthen brand consideration, as consumers prefer to see and experience vehicles in person before making purchase decisions.

    Strategy for long-term growth 

    To support its growth plans, the company will continue to expand its dealer network, enhance after-sales services and increase customer engagement activities. As of April 2026, GWM has a total of 39 showrooms across the country and aims to increase this number to 60 outlets by the end of 2026. 

    The automaker is also working to ensure parts availability and consistent service standards to reinforce long‑term ownership confidence.

    GWM Malaysia will also remain focused on advancing its multi-powertrain strategy across ICE, HEV, PHEV and BEV models, supported by a diversified portfolio including Haval, Tank, Ora and Wey. 

    Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, Encik Roslan Abdullah, added, “As we move into the next phase of growth, our focus is on strengthening execution, from expanding our dealer network and enhancing aftersales capabilities to ensuring readiness for upcoming launches such as the TANK 300 HEV. These efforts are key to delivering a consistent and seamless ownership experience nationwide.”
