GWM Malaysia sees sales boom in 2024; Haval H6 taking the lead

KUALA LUMPUR: Chinese automakers are making great progress in the Malaysian automotive arena, and the proof is the recent sales numbers revealed by Great Wall Motors. The carmaker recorded a whopping 331% year-on-year sales growth in 2024. 

Well, this is mainly due to the absence of a popular model until October 2024. And, when the company launched the Haval H6 in the fourth quarter; it alone grabbed over 1500 bookings in the first month only.

GWM has a number of exciting brands under its umbrella in Malaysia, which include Haval, Ora, Tank, and Wey. Along with the Haval H6, it also introduced the Ora 07 EV and Tank 300 last year and previewed the TANK 500 and WEY 80 at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024. The latter two are expected to launch soon in Malaysia this year along with the Haval Jolion Hybrid showcased in 2023.

Here’s a quick brief about these GWM models - 

• Ora 07: It is a coupe-esque electric sedan that impresses Malaysians with its advanced technology, comfortable interiors, and driving dynamics. The Ora 07 comes in two variants - Long Range and Performance packed with an 83.5 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, offering a range of up to 640 km. The price begins at 169,800.
  

• Tank 300: It is an off-road SUV that underpins a Ladder Frame Construction and Professional Off-road Chassis. Priced at RM 250,000, it comes equipped with a 2.0-litre Turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. 

• Haval H6 HEV: It is a bold and electrified SUV built on the company’s highly acclaimed LEMON platform. The vehicle is offered in a single trim, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-popper gasoline mill paired with an electric motor. The price tag reads RM 139,800.
  

• TANK 500: It is a 7-seater SUV that represents the pinnacle of refined off-road capability combined with luxury. Powering the Tank 500 is a robust 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder hybrid engine that generates 350 PS and 648 Nm of torque.

• WEY 80: It is a premium 7-seater MPV that redefines elegance and comfort. The Wey 80 features a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that delivers 487 PS and 762 Nm of torque and an all-electric driving range of 150 km.
  
• Haval Jolion Hybrid: It is a B-segment crossover SUV that is also based on the brand’s “LEMON” platform, just like the Haval H6. The SUV comprises a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol unit and an electric motor, delivering a total output of 190 PS and 375 Nm.

Another milestone the company achieved last month is the rollout of the 1,000th unit of the Haval H6 HEV at the EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) facility in Melaka.
