Honda Civic Type R - Is it worth the price?

Honda Civic Type R - Is it worth the price?

If you’d go through Honda Malaysia website, you’ll notice two Civic models - the standard Civic and the Civic Type R. Now, from the looks of it both cars are similar with the Type R wrapped in sporty aesthetics both on the inside and out. Another major difference is the price point. While the standard Civic model price range starts from RM 108,165 and goes all the way up to RM 128,630, the Type R will set you back by RM 330,002. (Note all the prices mentioned above are without insurance)

Also, check out 5 things we like about the regular Civic.

So, why is the Type R so expensive? In this article, we’ll discuss all its features and see if the price tag is justified.

1. Styling
By the looks of it, the Civic Type R seems like a car straight from the circuit. Every inch of the car from front to rear shouts dominance. Another highlight of the car is the aerodynamic body wherein every line and curve is placed to ensure high-speed stability and handling.

2. Comfort
At first glance, the Type R’s cabin seems to be taken straight from a racing car, however, the rear seat seals the deal. According to Honda, every aspect of the car from steering to the seat is designed keeping in mind the driver and is his comfort. Also, the red illumination, alloy shift knob, and smartphone storage area are all things a tech-savvy racer needs.

3. Performance
The Honda Civic Type R is a performance model, and as expected it is packed with raw power and the handling is nimble as well. Further, allowing the driver to adapt to the any terrain conditions, the car comes with three driving modes - Comfort, Sport, and +R. The former one calls for smooth and easy city ride, the Sport mode provides for more direct and powerful experience, and the R+ mode gives you the ultimate control. Powering the beast is a 1996cc 4-cylinder DOHC VTEC Turbo engine that churns out 310 PS of power at 6500 rpm along with a peak torque of 400 Nm from 2500-4500 rpm. The mill is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and can achieve 0-100 kmph spin in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 272 kmph.

4. Major equipment on board
The Civic Type R on the outside gets LED auto headlight, LED DRLs, LED front fog lamps, Type R triple exhaust with finisher, capless fuel filer, Type R rear wing, and shark fin antenna. The cabin-like the exterior is loaded with impressive features like alloy pedals, dual zone air-con system, full-color LED meter, cruise control, drive mode switch, walk away auto lock, Type R leather sport steering wheel, rev match system, Type R sport seat with integrated headrest and red suede style fabric, smart entry with push start button, and tonneau cover. Taking care of entertainment needs is a 7-inch advanced display audio system with MP3/iPod, 2USB, HDMI, hands-free telephone, and 8-speakers.

5. Safety
One great thing about the Honda Civic lineup is that both the standard and Type R model share most of the safety specs. Included in the list is dual front SRS airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, rear seat ISOFIX, Vehicle Stability Assist, Anti-lock Braking System, ABS, Electronic Brake Distribution, Auto Brake Hold, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, and immobiliser.

Conclusion -
Well, if you’ll compare the specs sheet of the regular Civic and the Type R, most of the features and specs are shared. However, the Type R being the performance model comes packed with a powerful engine that delivers crisp performance and superb handling. Also, complementing its bad boy image are high-tech features both on the outside and inside. So, we’d say if you are into speeding and someone who demands more from the car then the Type R is worth every penny. However, for a more city drive style car, don’t go for the performance car.
