Hybrid Nissan Navara a possibility by mid 2020
KUALA LUMPUR: It was only recently when Toyota announced its plans to electrify its entire lineup by the mid-2020s. And now we hear that a Nissan Navara hybrid is scheduled to arrive around the same time. Well, we are pretty excited, as more equals merrier here, right?
We say so about the Nissan pickup with surety because, during a recent visit to Australia (for the launch of 2nd gen Leaf), Nick Thomas, company's global electric vehicle director hinted towards the arrival of the e-Power Navara. It’s to be noted that all Nissan range-extender hybrid models are dubbed as ‘e-Power’.
Mr. Thomas further hinted that all Nissan heavy-duty SUVs would feature e-Power tech. Also, the fuel-cell tech might feature in the company's delivery vehicle lineup.
By the year 2022, Nissan is planning to introduce at a global level around eight e-Power vehicle and eight battery-electric vehicles. Also, the company thinks that by 2025, around 50 percent to its sales from Europe and China would derive from e-Power and battery-electric vehicle.
We are not sure about Nissan’s electrification plan in the local market, but we are hoping it to account to around 20 to 30 percent of the company’s lineup by 2022.
