KUALA LUMPUR: Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia is gearing up to launch its first fully electric vehicle in the local market, the J5 EV. Following its recent preview at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026, the company has now opened the ordering books for the electric SUV, hinting at its imminent launch.

Jaecoo J5 EV: What do we know so far?
- The upcoming Jaecoo EV introduces a fresh approach to electric mobility by combining contemporary pet-friendly design, intelligent technology, and practical versatility, targeting urban explorers, young families, and pet lovers.
- It is powered by a front-mounted electric motor generating a maximum power of 211 PS and a peak torque of 288 Nm.
- Feeding the electric motor is a 58.9-kWh CATL Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a WLTP driving range of up to 402 Km. The DC fast charging takes 28 minutes for 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC).
- The feature kit includes - Active Grille Shutter (that automatically optimises airflow to improve efficiency), 18-inch alloy wheels, a 13.2-inch 2K infotainment unit, 1.45m² panoramic glass, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a 50-watt wireless charger, vehicle-to-load functionality, Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, and a 540° HD Surround View Camera System.
- As for storage, customers will get a 480-litre rear cargo compartment, a 35-litre front trunk (frunk), and 35 smart storage spaces strategically integrated throughout the cabin.
With bookings now underway, all eyes are now on the J5 EV’s launch. Once introduced, it will compete against the likes of the BYD Atto 3, Chery Omoda E5, and MG S5 EV, giving Malaysians another compelling reason to embrace electric mobility.
