Jaecoo J7 PHEV Malaysia launch confirmed for February 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: The Jaecoo J7 PHEV made its local debut at Malaysia Autoshow 2024, followed by its public appearance at Sunway Pyramid in October, attracting thousands of visitors. Well, this much-anticipated electrified SUV is finally ready to hit the Malaysian shores.

    As the name suggests, the upcoming model is the plug-in hybrid version of the popular Jaecoo J7 that was launched in Malaysia in July last year. If we compare the two, the biggest difference of course lies under the hood along with some subtle design and ergonomic tweaks.

    The Jaceoo J7 PHEV is powered by a super hybrid system, which comprises the fifth-gen 1.5TGDI dedicated hybrid mill, an electric motor, a high-performance dedicated hybrid battery pack sourced from BYD and a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. The output figures are as follows -

    While the above mentioned figures are standard, the J7 PHEV performed exceptionally well in a recent endurance test conducted by Jaecoo

    The SUV surpassed the 1,200 km WLTP certified range on a single tank and charge, with the longest record of 1,427.5 km. It covered 947 km using petrol only and offered an all-electric range of 108 km, which is 18 km more than the standard specification. Further, it impressed with 3.5 litres per 100 km (28.5 kmpl) fuel efficiency.

    Jaceoo J7 PHEV charging 

    The upcoming Jaecoo J7 PHEV supports the following three charging modes - 

    • Home charging: It juices up the 100% battery in 8.5 hours using a 230V plug.
    • AC fast charging: It offers up to 80% SoC in 3 hours using a 6.6kW AC charger.
    • DC fast charging: It charges the battery from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes at 40kW.

    The SUV measures 4,500 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,672 mm. The boot capacity is estimated at 500 litres, which is expandable up to 1,265 litres.
