Land Rover Defender 130 gets a debut date

KUALA LUMPUR: After introducing the all-new Range Rover Sport just last week, Land Rover is now gearing up for the debut of its yet another model, which is none other than the Defender 130. The stretched version of the off-road SUV will join the lineup on May 31, 2022.

The image you see above is the Defender 130 official teaser highlighting the car’s capabilities in a sand dune.

Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming Defender 130 -

Longest model of the Defender family: The upcoming SUV is known to be the longest version of the current-gen Defender, which is already on offer in two forms - Defender 90 and Defender 110 in the global market. In Malaysia, we are still waiting for the short-wheelbase model with only standard Defender on sale in two variants - P300 for RM 798,800 and P400 for RM 998,800.

Eight seats: It is confirmed that the new Defender will come equipped with eight seats forming two three-seating layouts behind the driver. For the accommodation of extra passengers, the cabin space is likely to be increased by 10 inches.

Same exterior: As per the official teaser and previous spy shots, it is apparent that the Defender 130 will have the same front bumper and headlights as the shorter models. However, there would be some changes on the rear as the stretched Defender will have a longer wheelbase and an extended rear bumper. 

Similar tech features: While the automaker remained tight-lipped on unveiling the interior changes, we expect the same tech appointments available with its siblings. That means a chunky yet modern dash with a central display, a digital driver instrument panel, and lots of posh-feeling materials.

Multiple engine choices: The upcoming Defender 130 might be offered only in higher trim levels with six- and eight-cylinder engine options to choose from. 

The stretched Defender 130 will go on sale in the US and China soon after the global debut on May 31.
