MAS 2025: Smart #5 previewed in Malaysia – Specs, Features

KUALA LUMPUR: The Smart #5 has officially been previewed in Malaysia, making its debut appearance at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025. This marks the local unveiling of Smart’s largest and most advanced electric SUV yet, and it’s already turning heads with its bold design, spacious interior, and cutting-edge technology.

As the third EV under the Geely–Mercedes-Benz Smart joint venture, the Smart #5 is a major step forward for the brand—not just in size, but also in performance and charging capabilities. It is the first Smart EV to feature an 800V electrical architecture, enabling ultra-fast DC charging up to 400kW.

Smart #5 Malaysia: Variants and Battery Options

The Smart #5 will eventually be offered in multiple variants in Malaysia just like its siblings, including the Pro, Premium, and high-performance Brabus model.

• The Smart #5 Pro is rear-wheel drive (RWD), powered by a 250kW (335hp) motor with 373Nm of torque. It uses a 76kWh LFP battery, offering up to 465km of WLTP range and supports 150kW DC fast charging (10–80% in 30 minutes).
• The Premium gets a bump to 267kW (370hp) and the same 373Nm torque, paired to a larger 100kWh NMC battery. With an 800V system, it supports 400kW charging and offers a longer 590km WLTP-rated range.
• Moving up to the BRABUS, it adds a second front motor for a combined output of 475kW (637hp) and 710Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0–100km/h in 3.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 210km/h. Range is slightly reduced to 540km WLTP.
  

800V Architecture and Fast Charging

The standout feature across the Premium and AWD variants is the 800V platform, enabling one of the fastest EV charging speeds available in Malaysia. With 400kW DC fast charging, a 10–80% top-up can be completed in just 18 minutes—making the Smart #5 one of the fastest-charging EVs in its class.

Dimensions and Practicality: Is It Bigger Than Model Y?

Yes, and that’s the point. The Smart #5 measures 4,705mm long, 1,920mm wide, and has a 2,900mm wheelbase, making it a close competitor to the Tesla Model Y in the mid-size EV SUV category. It boasts 34 storage compartments, a 72L illuminated frunk, and a boot space of up to 1,530L with the rear seats folded.

Interior Tech and Features: HUD, OLEDs, and Sennheiser Audio

Tech lovers will find plenty to like inside the Smart #5. It’s equipped with a powerful AMD V2000 chipset, a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, and two 13-inch OLED screens—one for the centre console and another for the front passenger.

Unlike the smaller Smart #1 and #3 which use Beats Audio, the Smart #5 Premium and above come with a 20-speaker, 1,190W Sennheiser Signature Sound System for a premium audio experience.

Smart #5 Brabus in Malaysia – Specs and Performance

For those seeking raw power, the Smart #5 Brabus delivers just that. This dual-motor AWD beast makes 475kW (637hp) and 710Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0–100km/h in 3.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 210km/h.

It shares the same 100 kWh 800V battery with a WLTP-rated range of 540km, and supports the same 18-minute 400kw DC fast charging. Brabus-specific touches include 21-inch Monoblock Z wheels, red accents, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and simulated engine sounds for added drama.

Smart #5 Malaysia Launch – What’s Next?

While the vehicle shown at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 is not the unit we will be getting, Smart Malaysia is expected to open registrations of interest on its official site soon, with launch details and pricing announcements possibly following shortly.

Based on pricing in China, where the Smart #5 starts at around CNY 239,900 (~RM138k) and tops out at CNY 329,900 (~RM190k) for the Brabus—it’s likely that the Malaysian range will start at approximately RM200,000, with the Smart #5 Brabus potentially reaching RM270,000 or more.
