Mitsubishi Motors sees 37.3% increase in sales in 2022; registers record high sales

KUALA LUMPUR: The official distributor of Mitsubishi cars in the country, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) is tasked with analyzing its sales for the year 2022. And the result is nothing but impressive.

From January to December 2022, Mitsubishi sold 24,017 cars in the country which accounts for a 37.3% hike over the previous year.

Key highlights of MMM’s 2022 sales -

• In the list of non-national automakers, Mitsubishi is ranked third with an estimated market share of 3.3%
• The XPANDER which is known for its style, superior handling, and practicality, came out to be the biggest contributor to Mitsubishi’s lineup. A total of 14,316 units of the SUV were sold between Jan-Dec 2022. Compared to 2021, the said figure accounts for a 93.5% hike and contributed 59.6% share in the brand’s overall sales
• The XPANDER is also titled the no. 1 best-selling Japanese 7-seater crossover in the country
• The Triton pick-up sold a total of 9,697 units between Jan-Dec 2022; thus contributing a 40.4% share in the brand’s total sales for 2022. Compared to the same period last year, the pickup showcases a 4.6% increase in sales
• Despite the stiff competition, the TRITON pickup retains its title as the second-best-selling pickup in the segment

Shinya Ikeda, Chief Executive Officer of MMM, on the brand’s impressive sales performance not only expressed gratitude to the customers but also thanked the brand’s business partners for their strong support. He said, “MMM is delighted to achieve a record-high sales performance in 2022, and we thank each and every Mitsubishi customer across the nation for their unwavering support. One of our significant achievements of the year was that we celebrated the Triton pick-up truck reaching a 100,000-unit sales milestone in Malaysia since MMM’s inception in 2005.”

He further added, “On the product front, we also welcomed great news at the end of last year as Team Mitsubishi RALLIART’s Triton was the overall winner despite being a first-time entrant at the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) in November. The Triton Rally Car is built based on the mass-produced Triton, with only a few modifications on body weight and safety equipment for the competition. All the elements such as high performance, durability, comfort, and good handling have been engineered into the original products in the market. Now every Mitsubishi Motors customer can feel the motorsports DNA in their model".
