New Honda City Hatchback rolls off production line in Melaka
KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia opened bookings for the all-new City Hatchback facelift earlier this month. Ahead of its official launch, production of the upgraded hatchback has officially begun at the automaker's plant in Melaka.

The 2026 Honda City Hatchback gets refreshed styling, enhanced connectivity, and comprehensive safety technologies, making it a compelling choice in the compact car segment.Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia, Shikata Noriyuki, attended the official roll-out ceremony. Shikata said, “I commend Honda Malaysia for bringing together Japanese technology, manufacturing know-how and commitment to quality with Malaysian talent, local suppliers and industrial capabilities.”
“Honda Malaysia’s commitment to localisation is particularly noteworthy. The company has helped to strengthen local capabilities and expand domestic production by working closely with local suppliers,” he added.
Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Narushi Yazaki said, “This rollout represents more than just the introduction of a new model; it reflects our dedication to manufacturing excellence, innovation and sustainable growth. Driven by this commitment and our ‘Challenging Spirit’, Honda Malaysia strives to deliver products and services that bring joy and true value to Malaysians while supporting the local automotive industry.”
New Honda City Hatchback: What’s new?
The upgraded B-segment hatchback features a sportier exterior, with a sleeker profile, complemented by a new front bumper, new connected headlights, and new 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels in a Berlina Black or Dark Clear finish.
The new City Hatchback gets an updated dashboard with a new, textured 3D silver finish and ambient lighting in red or blue. Depending on the variant picked, the upgraded model gets a larger 10-inch infotainment unit, new seat upholstery design, new Multi-View Camera System, auto-folding side mirrors, and auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
In terms of drivetrain setup, the new City Hatchback retains existing petrol and hybrid powertrains. These include a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder producing 121 PS and 145 Nm, and a 1.5-litre i-VTEC Hybrid unit with the 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle engine delivering 98 PS and 127 Nm, and the e-motor producing 109 PS and 253 Nm.
