Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign unveiled, priced at RM 4.7 million
KUALA LUMPUR: Nissan and Italdesign have finally come up with the production version of its wild concept car first shown in 2018. The Italian design firm revealed Nissan GT-R50 on Wednesday, and it appears as the super awesome mint-colored car shown in the official renderings. However, it was originally scheduled to be showcased at the 2020 Geneva Motor show, but it could not happen due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
The redesigned Nissan GT-R is based on the 2017 Nismo GT-R facelift and carries a re-tuned VR38DETT 3.8-litre bi-turbo V6 engine with upgraded parts. It delivers 720 PS of power at 7,100 rpm and 780 Nm of peak torque from 3,600 to 5,600 rpm, which means 120 PS and 128 Nm higher than the standard model.
The increased output numbers come from the use of turbochargers taken from the GT3 race car, higher-flow fuel injectors, larger intercoolers, and upgraded ignition, exhaust, and intake systems. The rear-mounted 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox has also been enforced along with differentials and driveshafts.
Unlike earlier images of the production model, the first customer car has teal paintwork contrasted by black front and rear fascias. The LED headlights in the front and the massive wing at the back lend a fresh appearance to the car. The roof is also different as it houses a lower center section edged by raised outer areas. The custom 21-inch alloy wheels are exclusive to the model. Inside the cabin, there is more generous use of carbon fibre, leather, and Alcantara.
“This is a very special day after extremely difficult weeks for everyone. After we had to renounce the world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, and after the partial stop of our production activities due to Covid-19, in early May we returned 100% operative and can confirm the delivery of the first cars between the end of this year and early 2021, as planned,” said Italdesign CEO Jörg Astalosch.
Speaking of production count, Nissan and Italidesign decided to produce just 50 examples that have gone under production. The order books are open for all, and deliveries are scheduled for later this year, at a price starting from 990,000 euros (RM 4.7 million) before add-ons.
