Nissan Thailand extends factory shut down till May 31

KUALA LUMPUR: It seems like Nissan won’t resume the production of the Terra and Navara in Thailand just yet. As recently announced by the automaker, they have extended the temporary shut down of its factory in The Land of Smiles due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In its official statement, Nissan said that it is extending vehicle production suspension at Plant 2 in Samut Prakan from May 4, 2020, to May 31, 2020. In the meantime, production at Plant 1 will continue to meet the current market demand.

Nissan Thailand president, Ramesh Narasimhan, said, “Our goal is to resume normal business operations as soon as possible, but ensuring the safety and well-being of all our employees, their families, and Thai society is our priority right now given the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Though production in Plant 2 is not restarting anytime soon, Nissan Thailand is sure to manage an adequate supply of vehicles to meet the current customer demand. Besides, all Nissan dealerships are open and fully operational in Thailand, committed to providing quality services to the customers.

However, several preventive measures are in place across all Nissan dealerships and service centres to ensure the full safety and well-being of its employees and customers. The measures include -

  • Disinfecting the service centre every 30 minutes
  • Checking the temperature of every employee and customer as they enter the facility
  • Mandatory for staff to wear face masks at all times
  • Constant disinfection of cars touch-points like seats, door handles, steering wheel, console panels, and gear shifters

At the moment, Thailand has reported 2,947 confirmed cases, 54 deaths, and 2,665 recoveries associated with coronavirus. It seems like the country is on the path of quick recovery from the pandemic. Here’s hoping the situation stays in control, and the state doesn’t suffer from the second wave of infection.
