Perodua car prices reduced after SST re- implementation

KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua, one of the country’s largest automaker, has revealed the price list of the car models with the re-introduced sales and service tax included. This re-introduction of the SST (as on September 1) has seen the prices go down for selected models by anywhere between 1% to 3% against the prices that were inclusive of the 6% of GST (goods and services tax).

Almost all the model of Perodua has a reduced price after the new tax structure as compared to the GST prices. The Sales and Managing director of the company, Datuk Zahari Husin, said that he is thankful to the 3.3 millions of valued customers who have chosen Perodua as their brand. The company, as mentioned by Zahari, will try its best to continue to offer the best value in the Malaysian market with the new prices that came up.

He further added that there will be a continuation in giving the best competitive pricing to the customers in terms of parts and services as well while maintaining and improving their interactions with the customers.

Before the return of sales and service tax, the MAA (Malaysian Automotive Association) mentioned that the price of cars is likely to rise up with the SST. The president of Malaysian Automotive Association said that with the introduction of the GST, the prices for most of the car models went down. The assumption was that with the implementation of the SST, the prices are likely to increase. However, for Perodua and for many other brands with their new price list, this isn’t the actual case. The final effect on the pricing is yet to be released by some other companies.

The Royal Malaysian Customs Department, as a recapitulation, had issued a statement in which it clarifies the reports on cars, which are being exempt from SST. From sales tax, the goods (components for the CKD or completely knocked down) assembly are exempted and not the CKD cars. The cars, which is the finished product, is still liable for the service tas (SST).
