Proton crosses 100k YTD sales; August marks highest sales in 36 months

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has revealed the sales report for August 2025. During the month, the national automaker managed to sell a total of 15,228 units (domestic and export), representing a month-on-month growth of 12.65%. Notably, this is the brand’s highest monthly sales volume in the previous 36 months.

Proton’s year-to-date total sales is now estimated at 100,902 units. This strong performance kept Proton in second place on the national sales chart last month, with the total industry volume (TIV) projected at 73,890 units, the highest in 2025. 

Proton’s market share for August is estimated to have risen to 20.6% (up by 1.3% from July), with its YTD share now at 19.5%.

Proton Iriz	Contributed 305 units to the company’s monthly sales in August

“August was a monumental month for PROTON. We achieve our best monthly sales performance in three years and crossed the six-figure sales mark for 2025, and this is a testament to our sustained market momentum. With more new models in the pipeline, we are confident of maintaining our performance level and end the year with more high sales achievements over the coming months,” said Zhang Qiang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar.

Proton e.MAS 7: Best-selling EV in Malaysia

Proton e.MAS 7 remains Malaysia’s best-selling EV for August as well. The automaker delivered a total of 852 EVs (domestic + export) during the month, representing an increase of 20.7% over July. This brought YTD sales to 5,811 units and reinforced its position as the best-selling EV in Malaysia.

Proton is set to capture the bigger chunk of the Malaysian EV market with the impending launch of the affordable e.MAS 5 and the opening of its new state-of-the-art PROTON EV Plant in Tanjong Malim.

Proton’s export updates

Proton has been continuously improving its presence in overseas markets. It exported 586 units to various international markets in August 2025, boosting total YTD volume to 3,144 units. Among the top-selling models in the export market are X50, Saga, and e.MAS 7.
