Proton market share hits 77-month high since August 2013

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings has shown a second consecutive month of strong results in 2020. The sales figure in February grows to more than 80% as compared to the sales figure in February last year. According to sources, a total of 9974 units of Proton models were registered, which shows a tremendous 17.3 percent increase as compared to January 2019. Gaining to this effect, Proton’s market share for the month is estimated at 23.8 percent, which according to the statistics, is the highest since August 2013. The achievement Proton has made, is remarkable in its true sense. 

A very delighted Dr. Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton said that “February was a very strong sales month for Proton. Despite the shrinking industry volume compared to January, the company managed to show exemplary results. By being able to maintain our sales growth, our market share is now at its highest peak in 77 months”.

According to the sources, three models of Proton are solely responsible due to which Proton is witnessing such unmatched performance.

The star models include the Proton Persona which proved to be the leader in the B-segment sedan with 2,653 sales units which is almost double the figure of its closest competitor.

With 1,973 units sold, the Proton X70 was the second most popular SUV in Malaysia for the second consecutive month. Till date, over 7,000 orders have been received, proving that Malaysians quite like the intelligent SUV due to which its demand remains unbeatable.

Proton’s third segment star for February was the Exora MPV, which continues to have a strong hold on the C-segment MPV market. 

Even other models like the Saga and the Iriz also had an excellent February. The former continues to be the Company’s best-seller, with 3,934 units sold till date and demand is still outmatching the supply. The latter recently climbed the ladder to grab the second spot in the B-segment hatchback category and sales continue to be with the updated model of 2019.

Nonetheless, Proton is currently enjoying the limelight which it truly deserves.
