Proton records 36% sales growth, 2019 Saga bookings exceed 10,000 units

Proton has recently disclosed its sales figures and the numbers are amazing. The sales chart depicts the latest figures of 9,127 units registered for August this year. It constitutes a 17.6% share of TIV (Total Industry Volume) for the month, and which further enhances the market share of the company to 15.3% at this time of the year.

On one hand, the year-on-year total industry volume is decreased by 5.8% and on the other hand, the sales of Proton have increased by 36%. In terms of number, the total units sold as the end of August are equal to 61,396 and the company is on run to hit the mark of 64,744 units i.e. the total units sold in 2018. The automaker seems confident about this and stated that if things go like this, the last year mark will be achieved before the end of September.

Further, the company unveils the demand figure of last month launched Proton Saga, which is above 10,000 units, out of which over 1,000 has come from Proton’s online booking platform where customers can book a unit for just RM9.99. And this has made the firm to extend the closing date for online bookings to September 17. The daily order average of the Saga stood over 500 orders in the first week since its launch.

Proton CEO Li Chunrong stated, "Judging from the bookings received, the 2019 Saga is extremely popular with our customers who are attracted to the revised styling, upgraded components and new touchscreen infotainment system it offers. We have also been impressed by the volume of online bookings received, which exceeds the number we received for the Proton X70, so we are extending the online booking period to give more buyers a chance to use the platform,”.
