Proton sold 13,566 units in Feb 2026; New S70 bags 5k bookings

KUALA LUMPUR: After achieving a 15-year monthly high in January, Proton witnessed a decline in sales in the second month of the year. The automaker sold a total of 13,566 units (across the entire group) in February 2026, representing a 31% drop from the 19,833 units sold in the previous month. However, as compared to February 2025, it recorded a year-on-year growth of 20.8%.

    Notably, Proton launched five new models over the last five months, including EV, ICE and PHEV, making it one of the most active automotive brands in the country. These new models contributed significantly to boosting the company’s sales volume.

    Proton Saga

    • Continues to be Proton’s best-selling model with 6,047 units sold in February
    • YTD sales: 16,332 units (up 69.8% year-on-year)

    Proton S70

    • Second best-selling Proton model with 1,940 units sold in February
    • YTD sales: 3,544 units (Up 51.5% year-on-year)

    Proton X50

    • Continues strong momentum after the July 2025 update, with 1,842 units sold in February
    •  YTD sales: 4,271 units (up 31.1% year-on-year

    “2026 has started brightly for PROTON with strong customer interest for our new range of models that offer a compelling mix of design, the latest technologies, efficiency, and value. At the same time, our efforts to improve the customer experience in the showroom and service centres is starting to pay dividends, further reinforcing our brand values.

    “In the short-term, our most immediate challenge is to manage customer waiting times by increasing production and delivery numbers every month while maintaining product quality levels. With the investments made in our Tanjong Malim plant in recent years, we can meet the challenge, which should be proven by the sales numbers in the next few months,” said Proton Edar CEO Abdul Rashid Musa.

    Proton rolled the all-new S70 last month, guided by the philosophy “Intelligence that Evolves”. The latest version is equipped with the new i-GT turbocharged engine and is receiving positive feedback from fans. In less than a month, the upgraded sedan has bagged approximately 5,000 bookings at dealers nationwide, expected to further boost the brand’s sales and revive the segment.

    “New products boost brand visibility amongst car buyers but to ensure they stay with us, Proton has invested in initiatives to improve the brand experience for our customers.
