    Addressing rising customer expectations

Despite the SUV’s strong performance, Proton comprehensively updated the model last year in response to increasing customer demand, as customers now expect features previously associated with higher vehicle segments. To meet those expectations, the upgraded X50 delivers strong performance, a comprehensive suite of modern infotainment features, and an engaging driving experience at an accessible price.

    Recent sales momentum

The new Proton X50 has matched the popularity of its predecessor, with more than 20,000 units sold in 2025 (compared to 28,057 units sold last year, including the older version). This momentum has continued into 2026 with 4,271 units delivered in the first two months, reaffirming its position as one of the most popular SUVs in Malaysia.

    Customer insights & buyer trends

    • Looking at customer insights, the SUV has received an 89% customer satisfaction rating, reflecting its positive feedback across several aspects, including comfort, performance, design, and technology.
    • Over 70% of buyers mention design and performance as their main purchase decision factors.
    • 68% of buyers are aged between 25 and 35, highlighting the SUV’s strong appeal among young professionals who are either single or married with young children.

“The Proton X50 represents the evolution of PROTON into a modern technology-driven automotive brand. It offers Malaysian customers a combination of performance, connectivity and safety that was previously difficult to find in this segment, which is why it continues to resonate strongly with buyers,” said Dato’ Ir Abdul Rashid Musa, Chief Executive Officer, Proton Edar.

    Supporting regional expansion

Beyond its domestic success, the Proton X50 plays a significant role in the export market. It has become Proton’s second most popular export vehicle in recent years, with sales of more than 5,000 units.

“The success of the Proton X50 has helped strengthen PROTON’s brand perception both in Malaysia and internationally. It has attracted a younger generation of buyers while demonstrating that vehicles assembled in Malaysia can compete with the best in terms of technology, design and driving experience. Ultimately, its impact extends beyond sales figures, reflecting the level of trust customers have placed in the brand over time,” added Abdul Rashid Musa.
