Proton S70 previewed ahead of imminent launch; full specs out

KUALA LUMPUR: The launch of Proton’s new sedan, the S70, is around the corner, and ahead of that, the automaker has not only provided us with a detailed preview of the car but has also revealed its full specifications.

The Proton S70 will be available in four variants in Malaysia - Executive, Premium, Flagship, and Flagship X. All are powered by the same 1.5-litre turbo MPI 3-cylinder available on the Proton X50. The said mill kicks out a maximum power of 150 PS and a peak torque of 226 Nm. 

The power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Drivers can also choose from three driving modes (Eco, Sport, Comfort) and three steering settings (Normal, Sport, Comfort).

However, when it comes to features, the variants of the rebadged Geely Emgrand boast distinct sets, offering a diverse range of options to prospective buyers.

Starting with the Proton S70 Executive, it will come equipped with halogen headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch infotainment unit mated to four speakers, a monochrome instrument panel, 5 USB ports (2 Type-C and 3 Type-A), a push start and smart entry, electronic parking brake, fabric seats, 6 airbags, Lane change assist, Rear cross-traffic alert, Rear collision warning, and Door opening warning.

The Premium trim adds automatic LED headlights, an LED tail light strip, leatherette seats, an automatic air conditioning system with rear vents, parking sensors (front and rear), and a reverse camera.

With the Proton S70 Flagship model, customers get modern creature comforts such as a 10.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment unit, wireless smartphone charging pad, electronically-adjustable driver seat, a 360-degree view camera with 3D display, 17-inch alloy wheels, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. The latter includes -

• Forward Collision Warning
• Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go
• Lane Departure Warning and Prevention
• Lane Centring Control
• Traffic Sign Information
• Intelligent High Beam Control

The equipment kit of the Proton S70 Flagship X remains the same as the Flagship with a sunroof as the only exclusive feature.
