Royal Malaysia Police to get new mobile patrol vehicles

KUALA LUMPUR: Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is all set to replace the ageing Proton Wira and Waja mobile patrol vehicles (MPV) with the new Toyota Corolla Altis. Go Auto has recently showcased the prototype unit to the prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at its office in Putrajaya. Go Auto had received a letter of intent to supply 425 new MPVs ( mobile patrol vehicles) in phases from the home ministry.

The executive director of Go Auto Group, Datuk SM Azli SM Nasimuddin said, “The first 100 units of the mobile patrol vehicle are scheduled to be delivered to PDRM in less than two months, while the remaining will follow two months later. At present, Go Auto is awaiting the final decision by the Ministry of Finance on the supply,” The first 100 units are expected to be used at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2020 economic forum taking place in Kuala Lumpur.

“This is the second time that Go Auto has been awarded a tender. Before this, we successfully delivered 200 units of four-wheel drive [vehicles> to PDRM last year,” he further mentioned in his statement. “We are actively bidding in open government and private tenders as it is part of our business diversification. Our main focus is ‘special vehicles’. The stiff competition in the automotive industry now has led to Go Auto being more aggressive and creative in an attempt to remain competitive in the business.”

The Corolla patrol units will come with an integrated light sound and fleet management system and also a radio communication system with very high frequency (VHF). Additionally, the cars will be supplied with 5 years of free service. The prototype of the PDRM Toyota Corolla Altis patrol vehicle has been developed by the company to get immediate approval by the authorities. The company is still waiting for the ministry’s final decision on the supply.
